Moisturiser for Sensitive Skin: What It Can't Contain (and What It Needs)

Buying the right products and applying them in the wrong order is one of the most expensive skincare mistakes. The sequence is not arbitrary — it respects the chemistry of the active ingredients, molecular weights, pH of activity, and the absorption window of each product. Two identical products, applied in a different order, can yield completely different results.

The Base Rule: Texture from Light to Heavy

The fundamental logic is physics: lightweight water-based products penetrate; oil-based or occlusive products seal. Applying an occlusive before a water-based active blocks its penetration. This is why the sequence matters — it is not empty protocol, it is the physics of cutaneous absorption.

The Morning Sequence

  1. Cleansing — removes overnight residue and prepares the surface
  2. Vitamin C (if you use it) — lower pH, apply to clean skin before any other active
  3. Prebiotic serum or HA — lightweight water-based, maximum penetration on receptive skin
  4. Moisturizer — seals in the previous actives
  5. SPF50 — ALWAYS LAST. Any product on top dilutes the protection

The Prebiotic Serum in step 3 of the morning routine acts during the skin's window of maximum receptivity — after cleansing, before the occlusive moisturizer.

The Evening Sequence

  1. 1st cleanse (oil/balm) — dissolves SPF and makeup
  2. 2nd cleanse (gentle gel) — removes water-based residue
  3. Active night serum — bakuchiol, lactic acid, or anti-blemish
  4. Moisturizer/night cream — richer, for nightly regeneration
  5. Oil (optional, for dry skin) — final occlusive

Exceptions to the Base Rule

Vitamin C always goes before HA even if the HA is lighter — because Vitamin C needs an acidic pH to activate before any alkaline buffer.
SPF always goes last — regardless of whether the texture is light or heavy.
Eyes before face — the periocular skin is thinner and absorbs more quickly; applying before your facial moisturizer ensures the eye product penetrates without being blocked.

The Anti-Aging Eye Serum before your facial moisturizer — the correct order for the most delicate area.
