No labels, no limits: what Unnamed Cosmetics stands for
Share
Some brands start with a product. Unnamed Cosmetics started with a sentence: no labels, no limits. It sounds like a slogan, but it works more like a rule. It decides what goes into our formulas, what we write on the packaging and, above all, what we leave out.
This article isn't about how we compare with other brands. It's about what we believe, so you can decide whether it makes sense for you.
Two readings of the same idea
"No labels" has two meanings, and both matter.
- We take the labels off people. We don't split products by gender or age group. We make products for a skin concern.
- We put everything on the product label. The full ingredient list, what each active does and what it doesn't. No small print that needs a translator.
One idea removes information that doesn't help. The other adds information that does. That's the balance we try to keep in every bottle.
First: we take the labels off people
Everyone's skin has the same architecture. An outer layer that works as a barrier, lipids that hold on to water, a microbiome living on the surface. What changes from person to person are the concerns: oiliness, dryness, sensitivity, dark spots, fine lines.
So we organise everything by concern, not by who is buying. If your skin is dry, what matters is hydration and barrier support. It doesn't matter whether you're 22 or 62, or how you identify. The right question is "what is my skin asking for?", not "who was this bottle made for?".
"No limits" is always about people. Any gender, any age, any skin type. It never means limitless results, because those don't exist.
An example: the Anti-Ageing Serum with Peptides combines peptides and hyaluronic acid to hydrate and give skin a firmer look. It says "anti-ageing" because that's how people search for it. It suits anyone with that concern.
Anti-Ageing Serum with Peptides →Second: we put everything on the product label
An honest label is the simplest form of respect. On every product you'll find:
- The full INCI list, in legal order (from the highest concentration to the lowest).
- The key actives explained in plain language: what they do and why they're there.
- The product category, marked by a coloured leaf. Blue to cleanse, green to activate, magenta to hydrate, yellow to protect.
We want you to understand what you put on your skin. If an ingredient appears in one of our images, it's in the INCI. If it isn't, it doesn't appear.
On certifications: some products are Ecocert COSMOS certified, and this is shown on the product itself. When it isn't shown, the product doesn't have it. We don't use seals as a claim for the whole brand.
Vegan, no asterisk
Our formulas are vegan: no ingredients of animal origin. It's a fact you can check in the INCI, not a loose adjective.
And when we talk about origin, we only say what is true for every product: they are Made in Europe.
Vegan doesn't make a product better or worse. It means you know exactly what was left out. It's the same principle as the rest of the label: information you can check instead of adjectives.
No promises the label can't back up
This is the hardest part to live up to, and the most important. There are things you will never read from us:
- Deadlines for results. Skin renews at its own pace and everyone is different.
- Comparison photos that nobody can verify.
- Superlatives and absolute guarantees about what a cosmetic does.
- Promises to fix skin conditions. That's a job for a dermatologist, and we'll tell you so when it's relevant.
Instead, every benefit comes with the ingredient behind it. Niacinamide helps balance oiliness. Hyaluronic acid draws water to the skin's surface. Prebiotics support a balanced microbiome. If we can't point to the ingredient, we don't write the benefit.
And now and then we tell you what a product doesn't do. A serum doesn't replace sunscreen. A moisturiser doesn't erase dark spots. Knowing a product's limits helps you choose better.
How this changes the way you buy skincare
Once you take the labels off people, the question stops being "which product is for me?" and becomes "which concern do I want to look after first?". That makes everything simpler:
- You start with a short routine and only add what's missing.
- You can share products with the people you live with, if you have the same concern.
- You read the label and know what you're buying.
Not sure where to start? The Skin Diagnosis on our website asks you a few simple questions about your skin and suggests a routine to match. No questions about gender or age, because those aren't the answers that matter.
If you want a starting point, the Prebiotic Serum is a good first active: prebiotics to support a balanced microbiome and the skin barrier. It suits every skin type.
