Facial Cleansing Tips for Radiant Skin

Thinking of facial cleansing purely as impurity removal underestimates half of its function. A well-executed cleanse actively prepares skin to absorb the actives in the serum and moisturiser that follow. A poorly done cleanse creates a barrier — of surfactant residue, SPF residue, dead cells — that reduces active penetration by 30–50%.

The 60-Second Window

After washing your face, skin is at peak receptivity — still slightly damp, with absorption channels opened by the lukewarm water temperature. This window closes within 60 seconds at room temperature. Actives applied within this window penetrate 30–40% more effectively than on completely dry skin.

This means having your serum ready before you start washing your face isn't a detail — it's protocol.

Double Cleansing: When It's Needed (and When It Isn't)

Needed: when you've used mineral SPF, full-coverage makeup, primer or heavy-formula sunscreen. Physical filters and makeup pigments require a first oil-based phase that dissolves these formulas. The gentle gel that follows removes what the first phase left.

Not needed: in the morning (skin doesn't accumulate overnight impurities that justify double cleansing) or when you haven't used SPF or makeup.

After cleansing, apply the Prebiotic Serum within 60 seconds. While skin is still receptive, prebiotics rebalance the microbiome disturbed by cleansing.

The Complete Sequence (Morning and Night)

Morning:
1. Lukewarm water — no product (dry/sensitive skin) or light gentle gel (oily skin)
2. Pat dry — never rub
3. Within 60s: active serum (vitamin C or prebiotic)
4. Moisturiser appropriate to skin type
5. SPF — last step, nothing on top

Night:
1. Oil cleanser or balm — removes SPF and makeup
2. Rinse
3. Gentle gel — second cleanse
4. Within 60s: night active serum (bakuchiol, dark spot serum, or HA)
5. Richer night moisturiser

The Lactic Acid Exfoliating Serum is the most tolerated AHA — gentle chemical exfoliation, activated in the correct sequence after cleansing.
